This White Onion Sauce Smothered Chicken Wings recipe is quick you can easily have them on the table ready to eat in under 30 minutes. The recipe is only made with a few ingredients with distinct flavors that combine well together. The sauce combines onion rings fried until brown with some garlic, coconut milk and some broth to finish cooking the wings in. You can easily have this meal with a vegetable mash of your choice, or any side of your choice that will go well with some saucy chicken.
Easy Recipe Adaptations
You can use other parts of chicken besides the chicken wings with the same sauce. The sauce also uses garlic leaves which you can substitute with chives or scallions.
White Onion Sauce Smothered Chicken Wings Recipe
- 4 to 8 chicken wings
- 1 medium sized onion
- half a teaspoon chopped garlic
- 6 to 8 garlic leaves
- half a cup coconut cream ( thick part of canned coconut milk)
- half a cup bone broth or stock of your choice
- 2 tablespoon cooking oil of your choice
- salt to taste
Cut the onion into medium sized rings ready to cook. Sprinkle the chicken wings with some salt.
Heat up cooking oil in a pan at medium heat and fry the chicken wings for about 5 minutes each side, until golden brown.
Once the chicken wings are done take them off the heat and set them aside while starting the sauce.
A dd onions to the pan and fry for about 5 minutes until they start to turn brown without burning.
Add garlic and fry for a further minute, then add the broth and coconut milk.
Mix and season with salt and bring the sauce to a simmer.
Once the sauce starts to simmer add the chicken into the sauce and reduce the heat.
Leave it simmer at low heat for about 4 to 5 minutes or until the sauce has reduce to your preferred thickness or level.
Sprinkle the garlic leaves over the chicken and take it off the heat ready to serve.
