If you enjoy Quinoa and its health benefits, this quick and easy basic porridge recipe will ensure that you enjoy all the benefits of quinoa without other added ingredients, that may not be so health beneficial, you would be adding in when you use it in baking. Quinoa is low in glycemic index or GI, which means it won’t raise your blood sugar quickly when you have it. This benefit of quinoa can easily be transformed to high GI, with the usual additions like sugar when you use it in baking cookies or cakes.
This recipe uses ground quinoa or quinoa flour. You can easily buy quinoa flour or meal in health food shops. You can also make your own meal using the seeds, if you have a powerful food processor. You can top the porridge with fruit of choice and sweetener, or just sweetener, or just fruit and no sweetener. I used dragon fruit but you can easily use bananas, cooked apples, or berries. This porridge cooks quickly in about 2 to 3 minutes, once you have the water ready boiling
How To Cook Quinoa Porridge With Quinoa Flour
Pot with a lid, tablespoon or wooden spoon
1/4( 1 quarter) cup Quinoa flour, 2 and 1/2 cups water, half a cup milk of choice or water, honey or other sweetener of choice depending on diet, fruit of choice.
Add 2 cups of water to your pot and bring the water to a boil at medium heat.
While the water is coming to a boil mix the quinoa with half a cup of cold water to a smooth consistency. You can add a bit more water in small increaments if it looks too thick.
Once the water starts to boil, lower the heat to half way between medium and low. If the stove is too hot the porridge will bubble up too much and spill.
Pour in the Quinoa mix to the boiling water, and stir, whisking with a spoon very well until the porridge starts to look smooth. Pour in the half a cup of milk or water. Stir and mix the porridge very well and cover with a lid.
Leave it cook for about a minute or two. If the porridge is too thick you can easily add more milk or water, as long as you mix very well and bring to a simmer before serving.
Serve topped with fruit of choice and anything else you want to add on.
