Rooibos tea also known as Red bush tea brews very well in cold water. The beautiful colors and flavors from the tea infuse easily into the water within a short time. Cold brewed rooibos tea has a fresher, sweet and very distinct woody flavor than when brewed with hot water.
In this Iced tea recipe orange has been used to flavor the tea, but you can use any fruit of choice. The orange has simply been cut into pieces and added to the drink during serving. You can also squeeze on a bit of the juice to the tea. You can also use lemon slices, lime, mango, peaches and even some berries. Any juicy fruit will do. Just cut it up into pieces and about a quarter full to your serving glass when you have your tea.
The Rooibos tea has also been brewed to be strong so the tea can be diluted with cold water when you have it so it goes a long way as opposed to brewing a jar full of weak tea which won’t last long. This is a better idea if you have a small jar for brewing your tea in. To brew this tea you’ll need a glass jar with a lid. You can also use a bottle as long as it’s easy to get the the rooibos in to the bottle.
The ratio of water to rooibos in this recipe is 1 cup water to 1 tablespoon rooibos tea. After brewing you can dilute your tea by having half filtered water and half cold brewed tea, more or less depending on how strong you like it. Adjust quantities to suit your self and even add more rooibos to your cold brew mix if you like.
